Describe the situation by phone
An emergency enquiry starts with the property postcode, the damage you can see and whether water is entering now. Tell Adam if tiles, flashing or chimney material have moved, or if part of the roof looks exposed. Describe what you can observe from a safe position.
Calling allows the immediate concern and the available next steps to be discussed. Availability, access and conditions all affect what work can be arranged. An online enquiry is useful for planned repairs, but it should not be relied on for an urgent situation where you need to speak to someone.
Keep people away from damaged areas
Loose tiles, fallen masonry and damaged roof edges need care around the area below. Do not climb onto the roof or attempt to secure materials yourself. Photographs taken from ground level can help explain the damage if you can take them without approaching a hazard.
Inside the property, tell us which rooms are affected and whether the ceiling shows new staining or water entry. Explain any immediate safety concerns when you call. The first conversation helps establish what needs professional assessment; it cannot replace seeing the roof and planning safe access.
Temporary protection and permanent work
Temporary weatherproofing may be appropriate where the full repair cannot be completed at the first visit. Depending on the condition found, this can involve sheeting, a temporary patch or securing displaced materials. The aim and limits of the temporary measures should be explained.
Permanent work follows an assessment of the underlying damage. That may involve replacing tiles or slates, renewing lead flashing, repairing a valley or dealing with a failed flat roof. A temporary measure and a finished repair have different scopes, so ask which is being proposed before agreeing the work.
Callout fees and the written repair scope
Out-of-hours emergency callouts carry a callout fee. Adam will explain the applicable attendance cost and proposed initial work when discussing the visit. Permanent repairs are quoted separately. Ask what is included if you are unsure about the distinction.
The cost of the repair depends on the materials, extent of damage and access. A high chimney or a roof above an extension needs a different approach from a reachable lower roof. We provide a written quotation for the proposed permanent work, so the next decision is based on an explained scope.
Photographs, reports and follow-up
Keep any existing photographs and note when you first saw the damage. We can provide written assessments and photographs to describe roofing defects. If you intend to involve an insurer, discuss the information they need directly with them and mention those requirements to Adam.
Once the immediate issue has been assessed, look at the wider roof condition. A storm may expose a local weakness, while a recurring leak may need further investigation at a junction or outlet. The roof repairs, chimney and flat roofing guides explain those areas. We serve Leeds and surrounding West Yorkshire towns from LS12. Give your precise postcode when you call, particularly for places beyond the main Leeds area, so coverage and the practical arrangements can be confirmed.
